In alignment with the 2024 theme for International Youth Day, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” FCE Projects is fully committed to the principles of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is a proud member of the UN Global Compact. This commitment has driven us to reassess and reshape our business model, ensuring that every aspect aligns with sustainability. Recognising the global emphasis on digital transformation and sustainability, we embarked on a significant journey to revolutionise our processes and embrace digital innovation.

Building A Foundation for Sustainable Development

Digitalisation is transforming our world, offering unprecedented opportunities to accelerate sustainable development. The UN highlights that “technologies such as mobile devices, digital services, and artificial intelligence (AI) are instrumental in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” They go on to mention that “Digital technologies contribute to at least 70% of the 169 SDG targets, with the potential to reduce the cost of achieving these goals by up to USD 55 trillion” (Source www.un.org).

Our Digital Transformation Journey

In 2019, we identified the need to digitally transform our operations. We became increasingly aware of the global trends towards sustainability and understood that digital transformation was crucial for our growth as a business. To achieve this, we partnered with Liverpool John Moores University and secured an MKTP application with UKRI, allowing us to employ Graduate Lewis Gerrard, to lead our internal transformation project. The project aimed to grow our organisation by revolutionising our processes and understanding how data can shape our future.

Since then, we’ve employed an Apprentice Digital Technologist, Finlay Morse, who’s brought fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, applying theoretical knowledge from university to practical solutions within our business. Both Lewis and Finlay’s enthusiasm and motivation have been instrumental in driving our digital initiatives forward and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved so far.

One of the most rewarding aspects of our digital transformation journey has been the opportunity to mentor and learn from the younger generation. We openly encourage our young team members to ask questions, challenge our business model, and contribute their fresh ideas.

Achieving Net Zero by 2030

In 2019, we set an ambitious digital roadmap to achieve net zero by 2030. Our significant investments in digital infrastructure have equipped us with the tools and data necessary to pursue this goal. By continually adapting our systems, processes, and people, we strive to be a better organisation aiming for a sustainable future.

We’ve seen tangible improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. As we continue to grow and evolve, we remain committed to integrating digital solutions that support our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.

Looking Ahead

This decade is set to be the most transformational in our business’s history as the 2030 agenda approaches. We face significant challenges socially, environmentally, and economically, but we are determined to make a positive impact. By bringing together the energy and creativity of youth with the wisdom and experience of our professionals, and underpinning this collaboration with robust digital infrastructure, we are confident in our ability to navigate these challenges and achieve our sustainability goals.

As we celebrate International Youth Day 2024, we recognise the vital role of young people in driving digital innovation and sustainable development. Our journey demonstrates the power of digital transformation in achieving these goals. “By celebrating the digital contributions of youth, we can inspire further innovation and collaboration towards achieving sustainable development” (Source www.un.org).
